Property Description
It's just what you've always wanted, a log cabin in the mountains! This treasure is set atop the Wild Horse Mesa in the Southern San Luis Valley. Comprised of 6 counties and situated between the Sangre de Cristos and the San Juans (Rocky Mountain subranges) the SLV is the largest alpine valley in the world. The history is rich here with wild horses coming through to eat a little grass as they head down to the Sanchez Reservoir for water. The town of San Luis is the oldest continuously occupied, incorporated town in Colorado and home to Colorado's oldest continuously operated business. Popular places on the new owner's to-do list might include dropping down south into New Mexico for the charm and culture of Taos (<60 miles) or head north to the Fort Garland museum (<30 miles.) Several wildlife areas and reservoirs grace the lower valley and add to the sense of the wild west atmosphere. The home's power currently comes from the use of batteries, charged by a generator. However, there is power at the lot line! Water is from an inground cistern with water being hauled from the Community Center (about 3 min down the road.) It's easy to feel at home here, soaking up a little warmth in the sun on the front porch or the shade of the covered the back porch... listening to the birds sing... when the wind blows gently, it's like the perfect combination to instill that sense of peace.

Direction Rte. 159 @ mile marker 5. Turn left (E) on dirt road (Wild Horse Dr.) Follow the winding road up to the mountain. Once the road levels out keep following until you hit a very straight long section of the road. Keep following it until you see a street sign for Coronado Dr. After that road take the first driveway on your left (N). Total distance from Rte. 159 is close to 6 miles. There are a couple of other ways to it, with better roads, this one has the least turns.
